Our Therapeutic Approach.
Every person’s journey is unique, and effective therapy begins with a thoughtful, collaborative understanding of your individual needs and goals. As a clinical psychologist, I offer a range of evidence-based approaches tailored to support you in navigating life’s challenges, building resilience, and creating meaningful change. My work is grounded in psychological science and guided by empathy, professionalism, and respect. Together, we will explore the therapeutic methods that best suit you—ensuring that the process feels both supportive and effective, every step of the way.
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences. EMDR utilizes guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation while the individual recalls distressing memories, helping to reduce their emotional intensity. This allows the brain to reprocess the memories in a healthier way, facilitating emotional healing. EMDR is commonly used to treat conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, and other trauma-related disorders.
Cecilie has been practicing EMDR since 2017, with a focus on trauma and PTSD. In some cases, more intensive therapy sessions—such as double sessions or multiple sessions per week—are recommended to achieve the best results. However, treatment can be tailored to suit your needs, and sessions can be spaced out if that is more practical. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or if you’d like to learn more about how EMDR can support your healing process.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely used psychotherapy that helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. It focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions, encouraging individuals to challenge unhelpful beliefs and adopt healthier, more constructive ways of thinking. By fostering a deeper understanding of these connections, CBT empowers individuals to take control of their mental health and develop practical strategies for managing emotions, improving problem-solving skills, and enhancing overall well-being. CBT is especially effective in treating anxiety, depression, and other common mental health challenges.
Cecilie has been practicing CBT for over 20 years and is certified as a supervisor in CBT. This model is particularly beneficial for conditions like depression and anxiety, as it offers clients clear, actionable steps that can be easily implemented outside of therapy. CBT often involves homework assignments, which are a key part of the process, as practicing new skills in real-life situations is crucial for making lasting change and achieving long-term emotional growth.
Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBSR/MBCT).
Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBIs) integrate mindfulness practices, such as meditation and mindful awareness, to enhance mental and emotional well-being. These approaches focus on helping individuals remain present, observe thoughts and emotions without judgment, and reduce stress. Common MBIs include Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), both of which have proven highly effective in treating anxiety, depression, and stress-related conditions by fostering greater self-awareness and emotional regulation.
Mindfulness practices are based on the understanding that our minds often become caught in cycles of worry, distraction, or emotional reactivity. By training the mind to focus on the present moment, mindfulness helps individuals break free from these patterns, fostering emotional balance and a sense of inner calm. It also promotes emotional resilience, clarity, and mental well-being, particularly in managing stress, burnout, chronic pain, and trauma recovery.
Cecilie is a trained mindfulness teacher and incorporates mindfulness-based approaches such as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) into her therapeutic work. These evidence-based practices help individuals manage difficult emotions, improve attention, and foster a sense of self-awareness. Regular mindfulness practice can lead to improved emotional regulation, greater mental clarity, and a deeper connection to one’s own values, ultimately supporting long-term personal growth, emotional well-being, and a greater sense of self-compassion.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic approach that helps individuals embrace difficult thoughts, emotions, and experiences without attempting to control or avoid them. Instead of focusing on eliminating distress, ACT encourages clients to develop psychological flexibility—learning to accept what is out of their control while committing to meaningful actions that align with their core values. Through mindfulness and acceptance techniques, ACT empowers individuals to be present in the moment, fostering a deeper connection to their values and a sense of purpose in life.
ACT is particularly effective in managing conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, and chronic pain. It helps individuals break free from patterns of avoidance or self-criticism, shifting their focus toward building a life that feels rich in meaning and fulfillment. By focusing on what truly matters, clients can increase their emotional resilience, improve their ability to cope with challenges, and cultivate greater overall well-being.

Cecilie incorporates ACT into her therapeutic practice to guide clients in accepting their thoughts and emotions while pursuing a life that aligns with their personal values. Through this process, individuals can experience improved psychological flexibility, reduced suffering, and a more authentic connection to their life’s purpose.
